Gideon Asen specializes in medical malpractice and catastrophic personal injury cases in Maine and throughout Northern New England. Gideon Asen was founded by two Yale Law School graduates, Ben Gideon and Taylor Asen, in 2020, and has quickly become recognized as one of New England’s premier law firms. Gideon Asen’s founding members are the only two members of Lawdragon’s list of Top Plaintiff’s Lawyers from Maine. Here are brief descriptions of our three attorneys:
Ben Gideon
Ben began his career in private practice at a large, multi-national law firm in New York City. He practiced there for several years before deciding to return to Maine to join Berman & Simmons, PA, Maine’s largest plaintiff’s law firm. In 2020, he left Berman & Simmons to start his own law firm.
Ben is widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading medical malpractice attorneys. He is a member of the Inner Circle of Advocates, an invitation-only group of the best 100 plaintiff lawyers in the United States. He lectures in Maine and throughout the United States on medical malpractice and wrongful death cases, and is a member of the faculty at Trail Lawyers University.
Along with Rahul Ravipudi, Ben co-hosts Elawvate, a popular podcast on trial law. Guests have included many of the nation’s leading trial attorneys, including other members of the Injury Board.
Ben is a member of the Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York bars.

Taylor Asen
After graduating from Yale Law School, Taylor clerked for federal judges in New York and New Jersey, before going to work at a law firm in New York that specializes in class action work. In 2016, he moved back to Maine to join Berman & Simmons. In 2020, he left Berman & Simmons to co-found Gideon Asen.
Taylor specializes in medical malpractice and trucking cases.

Meryl Poulin
Meryl is a talented trial lawyer, with experience litigating a broad range of civil disputes. After law school, Meryl worked at a large law firm in Maine defending medical malpractice and personal injury cases. Subsequently, she worked at Maine’s largest legal aid organization, representing low-income Mainers in housing and eviction cases and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in protection order and family law cases.
