Steve Herman serves as special counsel to Fishman Haygood’s Litigation Section, bringing thirty years of experience in representing both plaintiffs and defendants in commercial, class action, and professional liability cases. His broad civil practice includes handling highway defect and products liability cases, fire and flood loss cases, attorney fee disputes, and special appellate work before the Louisiana Supreme Court. Notably, he served as one of the Lead Class Counsel in the Deepwater Horizon/BP Oil Spill litigation.
In addition to his legal practice, Steve teaches advanced torts and civil procedure courses at Loyola Law School and Tulane, respectively. He is a frequent speaker on topics including consumer fraud, complex litigation, and legal ethics. Steve is also an active leader in the legal community, serving as President of the New Orleans Bar Association and Chair of the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Section on Class Action, Mass Tort, and Complex Litigation. He is a fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Law Institute, and has been recognized by numerous other organizations, including Best Lawyers®, Louisiana Super Lawyers, and Chambers USA.
Steve earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College and graduated magna cum laude from Tulane Law School, where he was named Order of the Coif. He began his legal career by clerking for Justice Harry T. Lemmon of the Louisiana Supreme Court. Steve’s contributions to the legal field have earned him multiple accolades, including the Stalwart Award from the Louisiana Association for Justice and the Harry Philo Award from the American Association for Justice.
